Scopely has rolled out Update 94: Cause & Effect, a story-driven arc for Star Trek Fleet Command built around a distress call that drags the Commander and Maia into a fractured web of history. The culprit is Trelane, the omnipotent troublemaker from the original series, whose interference with the time vortex has corrupted five distinct timelines and threatens to unravel the past outright.
The framing is more than flavor. Update 94 ties its progression to putting those timelines right, and it lands alongside the usual mid-arc follow-up, Update 94.1, which cleans up the systems around it.
Fixing history, one timeline at a time
The core loop asks players to travel through each fractured timeline and make sure pivotal events play out the way they were supposed to. It's a structure Scopely has leaned on before — wrap the grind in a recognizable Trek premise — but the Trelane hook gives it a lighter, more mischievous tone than the war-heavy arcs that came earlier this year.
The narrative payoff sits on top of the real reason most players will log in: the new hardware and rewards attached to the event.
Six new Artifacts, front-loaded on purpose
The headline addition is six new Artifacts, with bonuses aimed at Outposts, Academy Combat and Training Drones, Origin Sector Hostiles, and V'Ger Hostiles. The more interesting change is structural. Scopely has reshaped the progression curve so the power is front-loaded — the first four upgrade levels now deliver a much larger share of each Artifact's total benefit before the climb flattens out at the top.
That's a direct answer to a long-running complaint. Artifacts that only pay off after a punishing grind tend to sit unused by everyone but the biggest spenders. Pushing the value forward means a mid-tier commander gets something usable early instead of chasing a distant ceiling.
Battle Pass gets Choice Tokens
Update 94 also reworks progression flexibility through the Battle Pass. New Choice Tokens can be spent across three separate Exchanges, letting players steer rewards toward what they actually need rather than taking a fixed track. It's the kind of quality-of-life shift that reads small on paper but changes how efficiently a roster grows over a season.
What Update 94.1 cleans up
The mid-arc patch stacks on top with a batch of practical fixes:
- A reworked 7-Day Login Streak, with Faction Bulk Claims opened up to all Ops 25+ players and a new Exocomp reward for keeping the streak alive
- An Alliance Tournaments update
- Improvements to reward claiming, Bulk Research, and Wave Defense
- New measures to curb chat spam, plus bug fixes
Why it matters
Cause & Effect is a tidy snapshot of where Star Trek Fleet Command has settled: a themed story arc as the wrapper, meaningful economy tuning underneath. The front-loaded Artifacts and Choice Tokens both point the same direction — less busywork, more agency over how a fleet develops — while 94.1's login and bulk-claim changes chip away at the daily chores that wear players down.
As always with a fresh STFC arc, expect the community to spend the first week stress-testing the new Artifacts against current PvP and hostile-farming metas. We'll revisit our coverage once the theorycrafting settles.
